About Lochranza Castle
Although the interior of Lochranza is closed in winter months, you can wander about the ruins of the castle throughout the summer. Lochranza Castle sits on a peninsula overlooking the village of Lochranza, and extending into the beautiful Loch Ranza itself. At first glance, it might appear to be a classic Scottish L-plan tower house of the 1500s. But if you take a closer look, you will see that it has been redeveloped from a much earlier medieval hall-house. Legend has it that Robert the Bruce landed at Lochranza Castle en route from Ireland, to take the Scottish throne! The castle was also the model for the castle in The Adventures of Tintin - The Black Island.
