About Kirkoswald
Kirkoswald is a small but picturesque village in South Ayrshire, located 4 miles south west of Maybole.

It takes its name from its Kirk, dedicated to Oswald of Northumbria, who is said to have won a battle here in the 7th century. This conservation village started out at as home to an ancient church, Kirkoswald Old Church. This is said to have been built by monks and dates back to 1244.

Like many areas in Ayrshire, Kirkoswald is also noted for its connection with Robert Burns. His maternal ancestors, the Brouns, were from the village. Burns also attended school here, and would later base the characters Tam o' Shanter, Kirkton Jean and Souter Johnnie on village locals Douglas Graham, John Davidson and Jean Aird.

Today, Kirkoswald has a lovely artisan vibe with some lovely shops, restaurant/pub and church.
