About Hunterston Castle
The stunning Hunterston Castle is an exquisite piece of history and the pride of Clan Hunter. Built back in the 15/16th century as a means of protecting the south and west coast of Scotland from Viking invasion, the Castle boasts a number of interesting features, including the removable wooden staircase and the well, which was used as a source of water. Interestingly, Hunterston Castle is still owned by the original family who built it.

There are 3 floors in the new tower, and 2 floors in the new extension, so there is a lot to see. The tower remains the same as when it was originally built, but alternations and additions have been made to the building to keep it in exceptional condition.

The beautiful architecture of this Castle makes it a must-see for anyone visiting Scotland, who has an interest in historic buildings, and an important piece of history to visit for members of Clan Hunter.

Hunterston Castle is set in 40 acres of land and the history, together with its unique features, make it a popular choice for both locals and tourists. It is listed as Grade 1, which is a building of exceptional interest. A tour of the Castle can be arranged via Pauline Hunterston and there are nearby hotels and self catering establishments, if you wish to stay in the area.
