About Garrison House
This striking Gothic building, is now home to the Museum of the Cumbraes and the Garrison House Café, as well as the local library and council offices. The House was built in 1745 as the residence of the Captain and officers of the Revenue Sailing Ship the ‘Royal George’. Stationed at Millport, the Royal George played a key role in the Revenue ‘hot pursuit’ of smugglers.
