From Brick to Building: Mount Stuart's Development

Visitors to Mount Stuart House will once again have the opportunity to explore the remarkable story behind the creation of one of Scotland’s most extraordinary houses, as From Brick to Building: Mount Stuart’s Development returns for the 2026 visitor season. First introduced last year, the exhibition offers a rare look inside the architectural story of Mount Stuart. It traces the evolution of the house from its earliest incarnations through to the magnificent Neo-Gothic masterpiece that stands today. Drawing on original materials from the Bute Collection, the exhibition brings together architectural drawings, historic photographs, correspondence and design documents that illuminate the people, ideas and craftsmanship behind the house’s development. The display offers insight into the creative ambition behind Mount Stuart and highlights the extraordinary craftsmanship that defines the house and its interiors.
