About
Cup and Ring Markings
These can be found at Hopeton, which lies at the top of Law Hill towards the Fairlie Moor Road. They are carved into hard sandstone and are believed to date from the Bronze Age around 1800-1500BC.
Their design and function is still subject to speculation and it is suggested they may have been associated with ceremonies or offerings. The cups and circles are typical of this type of carving across Scotland and many appear to be created in areas which have a viewpoint.
Follow the track to the top of the hill and the markings can be found at Grid Reference: NS 21500 48427
