About
Balmory Stables
A very warm welcome to our beautiful cottage, a historic property tucked away on the edge of the quaint hamlet of Ascog, on the east coast of the Isle of Bute. The property comprises the south wing of Balmory Stables, built in 1861 which has recently been completely refurbished to a very high standard. The accommodation is laid out in such a way to allow you to enjoy the privacy and tranquility from both inside and outside of the property enabling our guests to experience a relaxing and comfortable stay.
The property has an open plan layout and is comfortably furnished and boasts a modern log burner and a 50" smart TV. The kitchen has everything you need to prepare extensive meals, with an induction hob, a fan oven, fridge freezer, dishwasher, microwave, Tassimo coffeemaker and a whole range of kitchen utensils.
Great attention to detail has been taken when renovating Balmory Stables ensuring guests can enjoy a relaxed stay in luxurious surroundings.
The cottage has two large double bedrooms overlooking the courtyard garden and the property can comfortably sleep four guests.
Bedroom 1 has a super kingsize bed and a decorative Victorian fireplace. Adjacent is the ensuite shower room, with walk-in shower, w.c. and basin.
Bedroom 2 comprises two twin beds that can easily be transformed to a super kingsize.
Opposite you will find the family bathroom with bath, walk-in shower, w.c. and basin.
Both bathrooms have underfloor heating and towel radiators to complete the luxury feel.
The beds are made with crisp linen and fluffy towels are provided for.
A cot and a high chair are available on request.
The utility cupboard contains both the washing machine and the tumble dryer, which you are welcome to use during your stay.
As Balmory Stables is dog friendly, we have installed a hose outside along with towels and treats in the entrance hallway to allow your furry friend to be washed and dried, ready for a cosy night in front of the fire.
The Isle of Bute is home to many scenic walks and beaches for the whole family to enjoy but we recommend that you are mindful of the rural setting and that you keep your dog on a lead whilst out and about exploring as there are often cattle or sheep roaming nearby!
Outside there is ample parking space for two cars with an EV charging point at your disposal as well as a bike shed with charging points for e-bikes.
From the private parking a pathway leads along the fenced garden to the front door of the property.
The garden is made up of mostly grass and being south facing and sheltered by mature beech hedges it is a comfortable sun trap with lovely views over the rolling countryside towards Scoulag Moor. There is a small stream adjacent to the garden and although the whole garden is fenced and gated, you should not leave children or dogs unattended.
You can set off on several hikes straight from your doorstep and across the island there are many things to explore. With activities such as hiking, cycling, golf and fishing to name a few s well as many fascinating historic sires to visit, there is plenty to experience here on Bute. In the cottage you will find information on local activities and your hosts are more than happy to help you out and provide recommendations.
