About Auchagallon Stone Circle
Auchagallon was built about 4,000 years ago, and was probably a kerbed burial cairn. Auchagallon Stone Circle is located close to the Machrie Moor Standing Stones, and many interested in ancient and prehistoric history visit both. The Circle is comprised of fifteen upright stone slabs, with a diameter of 14.5m. There are several noticeable gaps where stones are possibly either buried or missing. They are mostly red sandstone, except for two made of grey granite.
